Atturra

ASX-listed Atturra (ASX: ATA) is one of Australia’s leading advisory and IT solutions providers. Headquartered in Sydney, the company has over 1,400 people in offices across Australia, New Zealand, USA, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

A fast‑growing organisation navigating change

With average annual growth of more than 30 per cent over the past four years, the company is in a strong expansion phase. Much of this growth has come through a targeted acquisition strategy, bringing together several formerly independent businesses into one organisation.

For Julia Merten, Chief People Officer at Atturra, that scale and pace of change make clear, up to date insights into how people are feeling and performing essential:

“The world is moving fast and on top of that, if your organisation is growing or going through major change, it becomes even more important to have real-time insights into how your people are feeling. Without it, you’re behind the game.”

This is where Teamgage plays a key role.

A CEO who knew the value of listening early

When Stephen Kowal joined Atturra as CEO in 2019, he arrived with a clear ambition to guide the company through this major phase of growth. Having used Teamgage at a previous organisation, he knew first hand how regular, meaningful employee feedback could provide greater visibility and more timely action.

He was determined to bring that same approach to Atturra, ensuring everyone across teams and business units had a real voice throughout the changes to come.

Julia recalls how Stephen set the tone early with his leaders:

"With Teamgage, if there are problems, you’ll be able to spot them early. Lower scores and more pointed comments act as an early warning, giving you time to address any issues before they escalate into people exiting or revenue dipping.”

That capability is not theoretical. As CEO, Stephen has seen it play out in his own leadership:

“With Teamgage I can actually predict the performance of teams 6+ weeks out.”

For that promise to hold true, the survey questions used by Atturra had to do more than gather feedback. They needed to deliver focused, actionable, real-time insights.

Embedding values through tailored question areas

Working with Teamgage experts, Atturra carefully customised our recommended questions to reflect the company’s unique strategy and values.

Their final set of eight questions covers these key areas:

  • One Atturra
  • Growth
  • Impact
  • Communication
  • Motivation
  • Trust
  • Empowered
  • Team

By embedding Atturra values directly into the questions, such as “Trust” (which emphasises their value of Respect) the company reinforces a culture where people feel safe to raise ideas and surface issues.

As Julia explains:

"The Teamgage platform prompts Atturra employees to share their thoughts at least once a month. This helps ensure our values aren’t just words on a wall; they’re brought to life, monitored and measured. We want everyone to take accountability and act if we see those values starting to slip."

Sending a positive message to new and existing staff

For Julia, embedding Teamgage within Atturra was able to communicate something powerful to their people:

“Using Teamgage sends a very positive message. It tells our people that we want to know what they’re thinking and feeling right from the start. Plus, it’s anonymous, so everyone can safely say what they need to.”

This commitment to listening runs throughout the organisation. Managers are encouraged to discuss Teamgage results with their teams, and the CEO regularly references them too, building trust through transparency and ensuring survey responses don’t vanish into a “black hole.” Even at board meetings, high-level Teamgage insights are often shared and distributed.

As Julia continues.

“Teamgage allows our people to have a voice and for our leaders at every level to hear from them in real-time.”

Atturra sees this all as part of the broader ecosystem that makes the company successful and attractive to employees. In fact, their recent employee value proposition review highlighted many positives around psychological safety and stability at work, with comments describing their culture as friendly and supportive.

Bringing clarity to the human side of acquisitions

With the continuous feedback process working well, the next focus for the Teamgage platform was helping Atturra navigate the complexities created by ongoing growth and acquisitions.

Fortunately, any uncertainty for new employees is addressed from the start.

“Shortly after joining, our new employees are already using Teamgage, giving us immediate visibility into how they’re feeling and surfacing any ideas they bring with them.”

The “One Atturra” question also plays a particularly important role in integrating newly acquired teams. While it often scores slightly lower than other questions, leaders see it as “a work in progress” and continue to use the insights generated to address concerns early, reduce ambiguity and guide ongoing improvements in this area.

Supporting leaders with data‑driven decision making

Teamgage has also been of benefit to the business unit leaders and people and culture managers, who work in partnership to turn Teamgage insights into action.

Julia shares a great example of this approach:

“During a major restructure in one of Atturra’s large business units, the unit leader and people and culture manager monitored Teamgage results almost daily. This gave them a clear understanding of how people were feeling through the change, where any problems were emerging and enabled more informed, timely, data-driven conversations.”

For many people and culture managers, Teamgage data also validates their understanding of team dynamics and gives them confidence to step in early and address emerging issues. While for business unit leaders, it creates an opportunity to engage with their teams in a way that suits their style and team dynamics. Some even go over their Teamgage results in their monthly business unit team meetings, helping build engagement, visibility and shared understanding.

A game‑changing feature: Teamgage Conversations

Atturra exists to help their clients see exciting possibilities through technology, so it’s no surprise they’re always among the first to successfully adopt new Teamgage features.

A perfect example is Teamgage Conversations, which now gives leaders the ability to reply directly to anonymous survey comments and hold secure follow-up conversations.

For Atturra, this moves them well beyond traditional slow and static surveys.

It establishes within their organisation a responsive and collaborative approach to employee listening that today’s fast-paced environment demands. Julia explains:

“Within the real-time survey results, we can now respond directly to any comment made. If it’s positive, it can be as simple as saying thanks. When a response isn’t clear, we can go back through the platform to ask for more context. And when challenging comments come in, we can engage directly with the anonymous employee to gather further information, safely and securely for everyone.”

She continues:

“It means anonymous feedback no longer just sits there in the ether with no way to respond. We’ve found it extremely useful and it’s already led to productive conversations in the platform and successful actions being created.”

For employees at Atturra, they now know their anonymous input is actually read and acknowledged, encouraging more constructive and thoughtful Teamgage submissions.

As Julia concludes

“We’ve actually wondered how we ever managed without this feature before.”

What they say

“Teamgage makes it simple to see what’s really happening across your people in real time. Having that live dashboard means you can act quickly, have better conversations and make decisions with clarity and confidence.

I’d recommend it to any organisation going through rapid growth or significant change, because that’s when clear visibility matters most.”
