See how the Information & Digital Services (IDS) group at Flinders University used Teamgage to support an environment where teams feel like they are part of something meaningful.
The IDS group at Flinders University introduced Teamgage way back in December 2020 as a way to regularly gather feedback and insights into how they can create and maintain a better workplace.
With a response rate regularly around 70%, read on to learn how they are using Teamgage to support a culture where people can contribute to and influence how the organisation continuously evolves and improves.
Context
The IDS group had embarked on some organisational changes to optimise and leverage the University’s information and digital technology investments. A new operating model was introduced, as well as new roles and capabilities.
Some of the changes were made immediately, for example all staff received an updated and modernised position description, and some were made progressively across the year.
Recognising change can cause disruption and uncertainty, the group wanted to ensure staff were engaged in the process. As Tom Upitis Associate Director, IDS Risk, Governance & Ways of Working at Flinders University explains “As a leadership team, we are committed to supporting our people through changes like these, and we wanted to know directly from them how best to do that. Teamgage seemed like the perfect way to seek people’s feedback and insights.”
Solution
IDS introduced Teamgage as a team engagement platform to regularly gather feedback and insights throughout the change.
Teams were set up in line with their new organisational structure, with the platform sending a reminder email every six weeks for staff to submit their feedback against the six pulse survey question areas:
- Direction
- Role Clarity
- Connection
- Support
- Informed
- Trust
Teams were then empowered to have conversations and take action on their own results. Leaders also used the results to improve communication, information sharing and collaboration across IDS.
Tom goes on to say “We used Teamgage to support an environment where people could contribute to and influence how we continuously improve our workplace.”
Results
Since introducing Teamgage, IDS has enjoyed a consistent response rate of around 70%! The tool has supported a culture where people can share their thoughts and feel heard. For leaders like Tom Upitis this has had some real benefits “We’ve had a high response rate and high engagement. We asked staff to submit responses on 9 occasions throughout the course of the year and received around 950 responses and 520 comments. Our Teamgage platform provides actionable insights that teams can work together to solve.”
What they say
“Teamgage has supported teams in taking an evidence-based approach to meaningful conversations about the culture and work environment in IDS. The results keep us in touch with reality and support our commitment to authenticity, transparency, and trust in everything we do. Teamgage has given everyone a voice, and the opportunity to influence how we continuously evolve and improve.”
